Life and Work

Wilhelm Rosenberg was a student of Carl Menger. A lawyer and an expert in banking and finance, who served among other roles as vice-president of the Anglo-Austrian Bank, he earned recognition after the First World War for his part in stabilizing Austria's currency. In this he worked alongside Ludwig von Mises. The two of them pressed Federal Chancellor Ignaz Seipel insistently, so that the policy of inflation and deficits was brought to an end and the complete collapse of the Austrian crown could be averted. In his obituary, Mises described Rosenberg, who had fought inflationism for years, as a "leader in the active work of reconstruction" and praised him as one of "our best men".
